Industrial PhD position - Engineering and Technology
Would you like to run and be responsible for a fully funded PhD-project, ultimately resulting in the award of a PhD-degree? Is your expertise within glass or polymers and are you interested in their mechanical properties? Then you can look forward to teaming up with one of the leading brands within screen protection.
PanzerGlass™ is one of the leading brands within screen protection on a global scale. The development within curved and foldable screens is increasing and therefore, PanzerGlass needs to develop a new best-in-class strong, flexible, and transparent screen protection. In addition, we need to establish new and innovative methods for mechanical testing and evaluation. In collaboration with leading scientists at Aalborg University (AAU), this project aims at developing a flexible and shock‐resistant material which can be used as protection for such special mobile devices.
Close cooperation with colleagues in Denmark and China
PanzerGlass' affiliated company manages production activities in Guangzhou, China. As part of the project, your involvement might include visits to the production site whenever it contributes to the project's goals and direction. Connecting with the factory and the Chinese team will significantly enhance mutual understanding and knowledge sharing.
Anticipate traveling to China around 1 to 2 times over the 3-year project period, alongside regular online communication with colleagues based in China. Additionally, expect frequent discussions about project progress with supervisors from both PanzerGlass and Aalborg University (AAU). These discussions will occur daily and weekly, and joint status meetings involving both PanzerGlass and AAU will be scheduled every quarter. Furthermore, you will oversee project work conducted by B.Sc. and M.Sc. students at Aalborg University on a semester basis.
Being a part of the PanzerGlass team
You'll be joining the Products team responsible for managing the company's product development efforts. Our team comprises six experts located in Denmark and China. Your workstation will be divided between Aalborg University and the PanzerGlass headquarters in Aarhus/Hinnerup, where both the company supervisor and co-supervisor are stationed. We're excited to have you as part of the "PanzerGlass family," engaging with you on a regular basis and during social gatherings.
Your profile
We anticipate that you possess an interest and expertise in research fields like glass or polymer science. A key expectation is for you to publish three scientific journal papers. The project's objectives hold substantial significance for PanzerGlass, aiming to reinforce the company's dominant position in the market. PanzerGlass is committed to challenging industry norms in screen protection, and the project's achievements and insights are foreseen to contribute to this endeavour. Your active participation and presentation of findings at international conferences and workshops are also part of the expectations.
Flexibility is crucial, as you may need to spend around four months at a university abroad from Denmark. Being a collaborative team player with effective communication abilities is essential for seamless cooperation across different teams. The role requires you to work independently while steering your PhD project, with support from your team. A positive, approachable, and engaging attitude is highly valued.
Lastly, fluency in both spoken and written English is a prerequisite.
